[MINC-users] The story of "bestlinreg"?

Hi minc-users,

I was wondering if anyone had any background about the various versions of
bestlinreg around.
So far I've seen
bestlinreg
bestlinreg.pl
bestlinreg_s
bestlinreg_s2

I've looked over the help and diffed the various versions together and I
see some differences, but its not clear to me why so many exist or if
they're intended for different purposes.

Does anyone have the story of their pedigree?
