So basically it still looks like netcdf to the low-level applications and
the exposed concepts are all the same.

It sounds like the old netcdf documentation still applies, in large
measure. It might be nice for someone to add a basic netcdf concepts
section to the minc documentation so that users and script writers can get
a simple overview of how things work. (There's not that much to it, really,
which is why it is nice. Named dimensions that have length, named variables
that have type and are indexed by dimensions, named attributes associated
with variables that have type and length, plus global attributes. That's
about it, or at least all that's left in my head after ten years.)
