Feindel Virtual Brain and Mind Seminar at The Neuro:
“The Connected Brain”
Speaker: Bratislav Misic<https://netneurolab.github.io/>
Wednesday, April 8, 2020
4:00 - 5:00 pm
Zoom (registration required<https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/feindel-virtual-brain-and-mind-seminar-at-the-neuro-the-connected-brain-tickets-101895542310>)
With the ongoing COVID-19 restrictions, the Cognition and Circuits and the Feindel Brain Imaging Centre Seminar Series have decided to combine forces and go virtual!
The Feindel Virtual Brain and Mind (VBM) Seminar Series will advance the vision of Dr. William Feindel (1918–2014), Former Director of the Neuro (1972–1984), to constantly bridge the clinical and research realms. The talks will highlight the latest advances and discoveries in neuropsychology, cognitive neuroscience, and neuroimaging.
Speakers will include scientists from across The Neuro, as well as colleagues and collaborators locally and from around the world. The series is intended to provide a virtual forum for scientists and trainees to continue to foster interdisciplinary exchanges on the mechanisms, diagnosis and treatment of brain and cognitive disorders.
Seminars will be held every Wednesday from 4-5 p.m. Talks will be live broadcast each week through Zoom. All speaker presentations will be followed by a Q & A and discussion forum.
If you, or someone you know, would be interested in presenting please contact us to secure a spot on the schedule.
Talk abstract
The complex network spanned by millions of axons and synaptic contacts acts as a conduit for both healthy brain function and for dysfunction. Collective signaling and communication among populations of neurons supports flexible behaviour and cognitive operations. At the same time, perturbations, such as stimulation-induced dynamic activity or the accumulation of pathogenic proteins, often spread from their source location via axonal projections. Here I will focus on how two fundamental types of dynamics - electrical signaling and molecular transport - can be modeled in brain networks.
How to participate via Zoom:
1. You can either join a meeting via the invite link or the Meeting ID #. The meeting ID # is the number found at the end of the invite link.
2. If you click the link it will automatically bring you to the meeting. If you do not have the link and only the meeting ID go to the Zoom application and click “Join a meeting” where it will prompt you to input your name and the Meeting ID #.
3. Use the toolbar at the bottom of your screen to mute/unmute yourself and to enable/disable your video.
Looking forward to reconnecting!
