[BIC-announce] Debrief: Learning about Deep Learning

Hi again everyone:


On behalf of the BIC community, I would like to take a moment to thank Santiago Paiva (Hoge Lab) and Dr. Robert Brown (Arnold Lab), who have co-organized a very successful training event on Deep Learning techniques, held at the BIC on Jan 19 and 26, with >85 attendees. Participants ranged from undergraduates to PIs, from the MNI, McGill, Concordia, École Polytechnique, and U of Toronto. Both workshop sessions were livestreamed via YouTube to an audience of 30 people, with most online attendees from U Laval. Videos will be available shortly on the BIC's Vimeo channel we're currently setting up.


Sessions featured theoretical foundations and practical hands-on using Google’s TensorFlow, including convolutional and fully convolutional networks.


As Montreal is becoming a major hub for machine learning, the organizers saw an opportunity to share knowledge with other researchers and to start building a community with a passion for deep learning.


A big thank-you again to the organizers!
