Cardiff University Brain Research Imaging Centre (CUBRIC)

Research Associates in MRI of cerebrovascular and cerebral metabolic function

School of Psychology & School of Physics and Astronomy, Cardiff University, United Kingdom.

Cardiff University Brain Research Imaging Centre (CUBRIC) is seeking two postdoctoral researchers to work closely with Dr Kevin Murphy and Professor Richard Wise to develop and apply MRI methods for measuring cerebrovascular function and brain oxygen metabolism in the healthy human brain across the lifespan and in neurological diseases. The positions will involve developing MRI data acquisition and analysis strategies based around functional MRI and arterial spin labelling methods. The post-holders will test these methods in healthy volunteers and neurological patients in collaboration with clinical colleagues. One of the posts will also have the opportunity for involvement in PET measurements.

Applicants should be experienced in the acquisition and analysis of imaging or neurophysiological data and have, or soon to be awarded, a PhD relevant to posts. The ability to communicate well with scientific and clinical colleagues as well as participants in our experiments is essential.

CUBRIC has pioneered the combination of cutting-edge neuroimaging and sophisticated physiological measurements to investigate cerebral physiology. Recently, in a £44m project, CUBRIC has expanded into a new building housing two 3T high-end research MRI systems, a 3T microstructure (ultra-high gradient) MRI system, 7T human MRI, MEG, EEG, TMS, tDCS, NIRS, a high performance computing cluster and a clinical research facility. The posts represent a great opportunity to work at a world-class imaging facility. You can learn more about CUBRIC at: http://sites.cardiff.ac.uk/cubric/ <http://sites.cardiff.ac.uk/cubric/>.

The two positions are both full time and fixed term and available immediately (starting date negotiable). One position (vacancy reference 5084BR) is for a duration of 9 months with prospects for follow on funding. The second position (vacancy reference 5131BR) is for a duration of 2 years.

Salary: £31,656 - £37,768 per annum. (Grade 6)

Potential applicants are strongly encouraged to contact Prof Richard Wise (wiserg at cardiff.ac.uk <mailto:wiserg at cardiff.ac.uk>) or Dr Kevin Murphy (murphyk2 at cardiff.ac.uk <mailto:murphyk2 at cardiff.ac.uk>) for informal discussions about the roles before submitting an application. Please apply for all positions for which you wish to be considered. Applications can only be made through Cardiff University jobs website:http://www.cardiff.ac.uk/jobs/ <http://www.cardiff.ac.uk/jobs/>.Full details of the required criteria for each position can be found in the job packs online. Please submit with your full CV, a summary of your research interests and career goals and a statement of how you meet the criteria for the role.

The closing date for applications will be 25th Sept 2016.
