Dear all,

We will have our next Biomedical Engineering seminar today

Wednesday June 25th, at 1 pm

Location: Room 333 Lyman Duff Building (Biomedical Engineering Dpt, 3775
University Street).

Speaker: Prof. Mallar Chakravarty PhD, Assistant Professor in the
Department of Psychiatry , Douglas Hospital, McGill University

Dr. Chakravarty is candidate for associate membership in Biomedical
Engineering department,
so attendance from our staff members and their students is highly
encouraged.

Title:
"Computation Neuroanatomy: Methods and Applications"

Abstract:
Structural magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can provide elegant snapshots of
neuroanatomy. The structure and the shape of the entire brain and of
specific substructures can be investigated using advanced computer
algorithms. Recent findings suggest that the brain is a far more plastic
organism than was previously believed. MRI image analysis techniques
provide a flexible multi-featured methodology to probe the effects
environment, experience, genetics, and disease may have on the brain. This
talk will focus on how to better understand how these elements may effect
neuroanatomical structure and shape and may enable a better understanding of
brain function and dysfunction. Specifically, my talk will focus on a
number of deformation-based strategies that rely on warping MRI to match a
specific model or to create a minimally biased average.
