Subject: The George Karpati Lecture by Elizabeth McNally 4:00 pm - TODAY

Dear Colleagues,

The Neuromuscular Group is very pleased to present the inaugural George Karpati Lecture today. This lecture, organized in conjunction with the MNI/Killam Seminars, is instituted to honor the memory of our friend and mentor and founder of the Neuromuscular Group, George Karpati. As most of you know, George was a world-renowned neuromuscular clinician and researcher whose lifelong search for a cure for muscular dystrophy was driven by his endless energy and scientific curiosity. We are extrememly pleased to have Elizabeth McNally of the University of Chicago as the inaugural George Karpati Lecturer. Dr McNally is a clinician-scientist of international reputation whose work on genetic diseases of muscle ranges from the molecular level through to the whole patient, where she has a particular interest in cardiovascular aspects. Her presentation, entitled "Genetic modifiers for muscular dystrophy" will be given at 4:00 pm today (May 28) in the de Grandpré Communications Centre. We hope you will join us in this scientific celebration of George Karpati's life and his contributions to neuromuscular research and to the Neuro.

In addition to the George Karpati Lecture today, Dr McNally will also present the Neurology Ground Rounds at 8:30 am tomorrow in the de Grandpré Communications Centre, entitled "Cardiac complications of muscular dystrophy".
