Dear all,
Our next Biomedical Engineering Dpt seminar is tomorrow
Wednesday - March 6th, at 1 pm
Location: Room 333 Lyman Duff Building (Biomedical Engineering Dpt, 3775 University Street).
Speaker: Tanguy Hedrich, Master student under my supervision, BME, McGill University
Since Tanguy is a Master student registered to the course BMDE500 who is giving this seminar as part of McGill conditions to obtain his M.Sc., special attendance from our department (staff and students) is really expected, in order to give Tanguy feedback on his research studies.
Title : Spatio-temporal evaluation of epileptic source localization using entropic technique from MEG data
Abstract:
In the context of presurgical investigation of patients with focal epilepsy, magnetic activity elicited by spontaneous epileptic discharges generated over a spatially extended cortical region could be detected using MagnetoEncephaloGraphy (MEG). Source localization consists in recovering from these scalp recordings, the generators of such discharges along the cortical source. A source localization method dedicated for this specific clinical application has been developed in the lab of Dr. Grova, it is based on the notion of entropy to regularize the inverse problem: Maximum Entropy on the Mean (MEM). My goal is to evaluate the ability of MEM to recover the spatial and temporal behaviours of the generators of epileptic discharges. To do so I have simulated propagating epileptic spikes and evaluated the quality of the localization obtained with MEM techniques. Moreover, I have compared the point spread functions of different localization techniques to assess their spatial accuracy. Finally, I will present a novel approach proposing a statistical test to threshold source localization results, using non parametric resampling techniques.
