The Killam speaker this week will be Dr Richard Youle, Senior Investigator at NINDS, Porter Neuroscience Research Center, Bethesda. Richard has made a number of important contributions towards understanding mechanisms of neuronal death and apoptosis. In particular, he has focused on the role of Bcl-2 family of proteins and mitochondria in this process. Most recently, he has deciphered how two Parkinson's disease genes, Parkin and PINK1, regulate mitochondrial quality control via autophagy. The works has been paradigm-shifting for those working on PD genes. Richard is an engaging speaker. I hope you will join us for his seminar entitled:
