Research Faculty in Computational Biology: Neuroimaging / Brain Networks

The Research Institute of The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) seeks to expand its research base in computational approaches to the understanding of basic biology and its application to child health. We are recruiting up to three outstanding investigators who will use computational approaches to solve major biomedical problems. Successful applicants will build active bridges from discovery to application in one of the best academic pediatric healthcare and research institutions in the world. SickKids’ Research Institute is a highly supportive and dynamic environment with programs cutting across basic, translational and clinical research. The Research Institute is located in a nexus of four research intensive hospitals and the largest university in Canada, which together comprise a thriving community in computational biology. SickKids’ expansion in computational biology coincides with its $400 million investment in a new state‐of‐ the‐art Research and Learning Tower.

Areas of special interest include, but are not limited to, neuroimaging/brain networks, cellular/molecular imaging, developmental/stem cell biology, and human genomics. Candidates in the area of neuroimaging and brain networks will have access to the human imaging facilities with MRI and MEG dedicated to research, and to SickKids’ unique patient population. These resources, as well as our large neuroscience and imaging faculty, ensure rich opportunities for collaborative research. Candidates must have a PhD and/or MD, or equivalent degree; have completed significant postdoctoral training; and have an outstanding record of research productivity. The successful candidate will receive a competitive salary/start‐up package and be appointed as a scientist with the appropriate Program of the SickKids Research Institute. It is expected that the successful candidate will be appointed at the assistant professor level in a suitable department, such as computer science, at the University of Toronto.

Interested individuals should e‐mail their application, preferably in PDF format, to: Chair, Computational Biology Search Committee at cb.search at sickkids.ca<mailto:cb.search at sickkids.ca>. Applications will be considered beginning February 1st 2011 and the positions will remain open until filled. The application should include a curriculum vitae, a description of past research, a description of proposed research, and copies of three representative publications. Candidates should also arrange to have three signed letters of recommendation sent by e‐mail.

Junior investigators are preferred but more senior applicants will be considered. All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Canada will be given priority. SickKids hires on the basis of merit. We are committed to the principle of equity in employment. We welcome diversity and encourage applications from all qualified women and men, including persons with disabilities, members of visible minorities, and Aboriginal persons.
