Special Lecture

Speaker: Dr. Peter Carmeliet, Recipient of the 2006 Lucian Award

Department of Transgene Technology and Gene Therapy

University of Leuven

Title: Role of VEGF in Neuronal Wiring and Neurodegeneration: From
Genetics to Clinical Trails

Date: Wednesday, November 21, 2007

Time: 1:30 pm

Place: de Grandpre Communications Centre

Dear Colleagues,

Tomorrow, Wed. 21 November (1:30-2:30, de Grandpre) there will be a
special lecture by Professor Peter Carmeliet (the 2006 Lucian award
winner). Peter has made major contributions in the field of
angiogenesis, and he has been able to link the development of the
vascular and nervous systems, both of which use similar cues to grow,
differentiate and navigate to their targets. He also has an interest in
neurodegenerative disease, particularly motor neuron diseases, and he
has demonstrated that VEGF can modulate the course of these diseases in
animal models. He is among the top 10 most cited scientists in the world
in the area of General Biomedicine.

The title of his presentation is "Role of VEGF in neuronal wiring and
neurodegeneration: from genetics to clinical trials"
