My area is not the brain, but the hypodermis and superficial fascia. I have been combing the literature looking for standardization of measurement protocols and it was suggested by a radiologist to look at hippocampus research. I came across your measurement software and was wondering if it could be used for musculoskeletal research as well. If not, is there any software that you know of that would also take volume measurements or do similar comparisons with the musculoskeletal system. Mahalo for your time and consideration in this matter. Portia -- Portia B. Maybe a little more detail on what type of analysis you will be doing will help too. Is it just measuring volumes? Will you be doing registrations? I'd be cautious with Osirix volumetrics - the volume calculation is not the usual product of voxel volumes by voxel count, but rather the volume of the ROIs interpolated in the z direction (with a rather unusual formula if you check the source) - it is not intended for for scattered lesions for example. April 14-15 Message-ID: <20140312192727.GB28735@kimsrv.clarke-inst.on.ca> Hi all, This a project I've been involved with for a long time now. The goal is to build up the computing skills of researchers in all disciplines so that they can do better science. I thought I'd share this with you all, since I figure these workshops may be of relevance to MINC users and perhaps your colleagues/collaborators. Jon. ----- Forwarded message from Greg Wilson ----- > Hello, > > I hope you don't mind mail out of the blue, but I was hoping you could let your graduate students and faculty know about some Software Carpentry workshops that are taking place in Montreal on April 14-15. Our aim is to teach researchers in science, engineering, medicine, and related fields the basic computing skills they need to get more done in less time, and with less pain. Founded in 1998, we are now part of the Mozilla Foundation, and in 2013 we ran almost 100 workshops for more than 3500 people in 12 countries - you can find out more at http://software-carpentry.org. > > We will be running four separate events in Montreal: > > * A two-workshop on April 14-15 that will cover the Unix shell, programming in Python, version control, and data management: http://www.eventbrite.com/e/montreal-software-carpentry-bootcamp-registration-10151376039 > > * A similar workshop on the same days for research librarians: http://www.eventbrite.com/e/software-skills-for-librarians-registration-10812972893 > > * A one-day master class in next-generation sequencing on April 14: http://www.eventbrite.com/e/master-class-in-next-generation-sequencing-registration-10151618765 > > * A one-day class on R for people who already know how to program in some other language on April 15: http://www.eventbrite.com/e/r-for-programmers-registration-10319320365 > > There are more details at http://pycon.blogspot.ca/2014/02/software-carpentry-at-pycon.html, and if you or your colleagues would like more information, please give us a shout at admin at software-carpentry.org.
