Hi List,
I keep inadvertently using my gmail address when sending to the
list ... resulting in my mail being tossed. So, I'm resending my
response from yesterday -- assuming it didn't make it to the list.

Hi all,
I also encountered this exact problem a few months ago, i.e. the
GLUT error which is in fact a misreported libx* error. I probably
should have posted something about this ... would have saved Alex some
degree of pain. At any rate, although Andrew has written a fix for
this specific problem, I would suggest that the real solution to
problems such as these is to move to a build system which can be
easily groked by all.
Enter CMake. Having beaten my head against the autotools for more
time than I would like to admit, I've started to use CMake. Unlike
the autotools, CMake is a tool that can be fairly easily understood
and used by those of us who just want to build software without having
to make it into a profession (no m4!!). Conversion to CMake, while
obviously dependent upon project complexity, is generally a fairly
straight-forward process. I myself have (as a proof of concept)
converted some BIC packages to CMake with little difficulty -- which
is impressive, given my general level of inadequacy in these things.
Andrew, I believe that you have been using CMake; how has your
experience been with it?
Cheers,
-Jim
