Are you sure you are not missing the -modeldir  /path option 
and be sure your modelname icbm_avg_152_t1_tal_lin is correct
ie

mritotal -modeldir /<your model path> -model icbm_avg_t1_tal_lin 
abc.mnc abc.xfm
