No release has been made since 2.2.00 but one is imminent. I have been
doing a lot of testing on the new build and changes that have been made
since splitting the package.

OK, in the absence of others input then I say we dump automake/autoconf and
go with CMake given all the work that Vladimir has put into this. You will
also note that volume_io is now merged into minc itself as part of a larger
effort of rationalisation.

Steve, do you happen to know of any implications of using CMake with
libtool and release versioning of libraries?
