From mary.miedema at mail.mcgill.ca Mon Dec 2 12:25:09 2024 From: mary.miedema at mail.mcgill.ca (Mary Miedema) Date: Mon, 2 Dec 2024 17:25:09 +0000 Subject: [BIC-announce] MRITogether this week! Message-ID: Hello BIC users, I'm passing on this invitation to register and attend MRITogether from Lars Kasper and the MRITogether24 organizing committee: I am part of the organizing committee of ESMRMB's MRITogether24 (December 3rd to December 6th, 2024), and our focus this year is on "Staying Together", i.e., how to make open MRI efforts sustainable and long-lasting. There is still time to register for this free, online-only event. Maybe there are some members of your group or among your colleagues who might be interested to attend at short notice. I would be very grateful if you could forward this invitation to them. MRITogether24 is a free virtual global workshop on open, reproducible, and inclusive MR, supported by the European Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine and Biology (ESMRMB). It is organised for the fourth time since 2021 and will span multiple time zones between December 3rd to December 6th, 2024. Last year, we achieved over 800 registrants from around the world. Looking forward to seeing you there! Lars There are a number of talks that will be of interest to the BIC and Neuro communities, such as the Reproducibility crisis revisited session on Wednesday, December 4th! You can see the full program here: https://mritogether.esmrmb.org/24m/schedule/ If you plan to attend, it is best to register today to allow time to receive details of how to join the Zoom sessions and online networking platform. Communications Centre, The Neuro [cid:image007.png at 01DB23AE.473949A0] Abstract: Positron Emission Tomography (PET) is an essential non-invasive imaging technique widely used in disease diagnosis and drug discovery. SV2A (Synaptic Vesicle Protein 2A) serves as a key biomarker for imaging synaptic density in the brain, making it an important target in neurological research. Rho-associated protein kinase 2 (ROCK2), a member of the AGC family of serine/threonine kinases, plays a critical role in various cellular functions. In this presentation, Chao Zheng will share his work on the development of innovative PET imaging tracers for both SV2A and ROCK2, advancing our ability to visualize and study the brain in the context of neurological diseases and therapies. The Feindel Seminar Series at The Neuro Advances the vision of Dr. William Feindel (1918?2014), Former Director of the Neuro (1972?1984), to constantly bridge the clinical and research realms. The talks will highlight the latest advances and discoveries in neuropsychology, cognitive neuroscience, and neuroimaging. Visit the event web page for more information. Venue: de Grandpr? Communications Centre at the Neuro. This session is all about dynamics, in fMRI and MEG. We will have 2 speakers and 2 corresponding discussions: Presenter: Luc Wilson Baillet Lab Title: Time-resolved parameterization of aperiodic and periodic brain activity Summary: Brain activity consists of periodic and aperiodic signal elements which evolve actively in relation to ongoing behaviours. This presentation introduces the concepts and methods for decomposing and parameterizing neural dynamics into periodic and aperiodic components in a time-resolved manner. Using these methods, we demonstrate aperiodic dynamics in resting-state human magnetoencephalography, as well as in rodent electrophysiology coinciding with task-based behaviours. Presenter: Mohammad Torabi JB Poline?s Lab Title: On the variability of dynamic functional connectivity assessment methods Dynamic functional connectivity (dFC) has become an important measure for understanding brain function and as a potential biomarker . However , various methodologies have been developed for assessing dFC, and it is unclear how the choice of method affects the results. In this work, we aimed to study the variability of commonly used dFC methods. We applied 7 dFC assessment methods to analyze the functional magnetic resonance imaging data of 395 subjects from the Human Connectome Project. We measured the similarity of dFC results yielded by different methods using several metrics to quantify overall, temporal, spatial, and intersubject similarity. We show a range of weak to strong similarity between the results of different methods, indicating considerable overall variability. Somewhat surprisingly, the observed variability in dFC estimates was found to be comparable to the expected functional connectivity variation over time, emphasizing the impact of methodological choices on the final results. Overall, our findings shed light on the impact of dFC assessment analytical flexibility and highlight the need for multi-analysis approaches and careful method selection to capture the full range of dFC variation. Pizza and soft drinks will be provided after the seminar, at 12:30 PM - courtesy of the BIC director (strictly for attendees of the seminar). The website is being populated here: https://www.ismrm.org/workshops/2025/UHF-Brain/ (the full preliminary program is attached). Day 1 will jointly cover brain function at UHF, while Days 2-3 will consist of parallel sessions from the two study groups. Abstract submission deadline is January 10th. Given the timeline for travel arrangements, authors can count on favorable acceptance rates. Abstracts similar to ISMRM and OHBM are welcome. This is the first ISMRM Workshop jointly organized by two study groups, and with one registration you will be able to attend sessions organized by both study groups! We hope to see you there! Communications Centre, The Neuro [image007.png] Abstract: In this talk, an overview of recent research from the speaker's group will be provided, focusing on image acquisition and reconstruction methods for rapid and robust neuroimaging. The presentation will begin with recent work on self-supervised learning for accelerated multi-contrast structural brain imaging. This will be followed by a discussion on robust multi-shot EPI for fMRI at 7T, aimed at improving image quality and temporal stability in the presence of inter-shot phase fluctuations and motion corruptions. The talk will also highlight reconstruction strategies for enhanced simultaneous-multi-slice fMRI of awake, behaving non-human primates, ultra-high-resolution fMRI at 7T using radial-cartesian acquisitions, and conclude with perspectives on uncertainty quantification in denoising of MRSI data. The Feindel Seminar Series at The Neuro Advances the vision of Dr. William Feindel (1918?2014), Former Director of the Neuro (1972?1984), to constantly bridge the clinical and research realms.
