-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello all!

We are excited to announce the upcoming Montreal edition of Brainhack
Global 2021 taking place from December 6-10! 🎉

REGISTER HERE! <https://brainhackmtl.github.io/global2021/#register>

1. What is a Brainhack?

Brainhacks are educational hackathons that bring researchers together from
a variety of disciplines (e.g., neuroscience, psychology, engineering) and
career levels (e.g., undergraduate, graduate, research staff) to
collaborate on participant-led projects and ideas and share open
science-oriented technical skills.

Rather than your ‘typical’ competitive hackathon, Brainhacks aim to be
actively inclusive and radically collaborative. To that end, attendees
don’t need to have coding expertise or prior hackathon experience: everyone
is welcome! All you need to do is bring your excitement to contribute and
share ideas in whatever way works for you.

this Neuroview
piece

!

2. What will the event look like/how do I register?

Brainhack Montreal 2021 will have a hybrid format, with a limited capacity
in-person space available at the Centre de recherche institut universitaire
de gériatrie de Montréal (CRIUGM) amphitheater for coffee and snacks every
morning, and as a free hacking/meeting spot for the rest of the day. The
current schedule can be found on our event website here
<https://brainhackmtl.github.io/global2021/>.

Registration for the event is open now
<https://brainhackmtl.github.io/global2021/#register>; to ensure we can
accommodate attendees wishing to participate in person, please register as
soon as possible if you plan to use the in-person hacking space!

To stay up-to-date on Brainhack Montreal news or connect with fellow
participants, join the chat on our Mattermost channel #brainhack-mtl
<https://mattermost.brainhack.org/brainhack/channels/brainhack-mtl-2021>!
NOTE: Please sign up for Mattermost with a non-institutional email to
ensure the registration confirmation email is not blocked by your school’s
system!

3. How do I submit or join a Brainhack project?

Instructions for submitting new hackathon projects and info on existing
projects you can join can be found on the Brainhack Global 2021 website
<https://brainhack.org/global2021/projects/> here
<https://brainhack.org/global2021/projects/> (all projects are managed
centrally, even if you are attending the Montreal event). Please register
for Brainhack Montreal before submitting a project!

We encourage you to submit project proposals before December 1; live
project pitches will then take place on the first day of Brainhack Montreal
(Dec 6) so that participants who have not yet joined a project can do so!

4. Help! I want to participate in Brainhack but lack experience/skills in
____:

Fear not! Brainhack welcomes participants of all different skill
backgrounds and levels, and has a dedicated help desk Mattermost channel
<https://mattermost.brainhack.org/brainhack/channels/help_desk-general> where
participants can seek technical support on their projects at any time. In
addition, Brainhack Montreal will have our own ‘live’ help desk on Zoom for
1 hour every day, where volunteers will be available to answer your
questions or point you in the direction of resources. For
refreshers/tutorials on software (Python, git, containerization, & more!),
we also recommend checking out the educational modules from Brainhack
School Montreal 2020 <https://psy6983.brainhackmtl.org/modules/>.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us using
the #brainhack-mtl channel! Hope to see you there!

Cheers,

Brainhack Montreal 2021 Organizers
