Dear all,

In response to requests for clarification on how the Neuro's RED ZONE criteria will be applied in the MRI Unit, please see the details below:

Criterion 1) Patients enrolled in clinical trials

This is limited to clinical drug trials, registered as interventional trials with Health Canada, in which MRI scans are used to assess treatment efficacy. Normally all such scanning is coordinated by the CRU.

Criterion 2) Patients who are scheduled to come in for regular care or treatment.

This is limited to patients whose MRI scans have been scheduled to coincide with a clinical appointment at the Neuro related to their healthcare (e.g. drug infusion, other tests needed for their care, etc). The patient would be coming to the Neuro anyway, even if the MRI research scan was not scheduled.

Criterion 3) Patients who are scheduled to be seen by physicians on a regular basis.

As per criterion 2, but the scheduled appointment is to see their physician. The patient would be coming to the Neuro anyway, even if the MRI research scan was not scheduled.

Criterion 4) Patients already enrolled in on-going longitudinal studies, with the exception of people over 70 years of age.

This is limited to patients who have already been scanned (or undergone other procedures in the study) as part of a strict longitudinal schedule. Deviating from the longitudinal schedule would invalidate that patient's dataset, rendering them unusable in the study despite their initial participation. Patients whose scans can be deferred without invalidating their longitudinal dataset should be rescheduled.

In addition to the immediate concerns regarding COVID-19 transmission, we are also short-staffed with only a single MR technologist (due to the loss of Louise Marcotte and another tech being on sick leave until the end of October). It is thus of particular importance that research MR scans be limited to those falling clearly within the criteria listed above.

If you have research scans scheduled in the MRI Unit between now and October 28, and need to reschedule, please contact bic-finance.mni at mcgill.ca<mailto:bic-finance.mni at mcgill.ca>

Thank you for your ongoing collaboration,

Rick

Update

Research

  * Any research that can be conducted remotely should be done so.

  * RESEARCH NOT INVOLVING HUMAN SUBJECTS

Currently approved on-site research activities (not involving human subjects) may continue.

  *   RESEARCH WITH HUMAN SUBJECTS

Current on-site research with human subjects may continue with people in the following four categories:

     * Patients enrolled in clinical trials.
     * Patients who are scheduled to come in for regular care or treatment.
     * Patients who are scheduled to be seen by physicians on a regular basis.

  * IMPORTANT Within the above three groups, subjects 70 years of age and older already coming into The Neuro for these purposes can still participate in research activities. New subjects 70 years and older cannot be recruited for studies until further notice.

4. Patients already enrolled in on-going longitudinal studies, with the exception of people over 70 years of age.

• All in-person studies with healthy control subjects of all ages areCANCELLED until further notice.

  * These directives will be reassessed on October 28 or as the situation evolves.
