SUBJECT:  Healing Garden / jardin de ressourcement

As most of you are aware, the Healing Garden on the ground floor of the three-storey Manulife Atrium in the North Wing of The Neuro has been welcoming visitors steadily since its opening in May.

At this time, we would like to remind users that this airy zone of sunlight and greenery was designed as a calming environment to help accelerate the recovery of our hospital patients. The elements of nature-shrubs, trees, flowers and water-were chosen for their restorative power. Varying shades, textures and fragrances contribute to reducing stress and anxiety. Natural, artificial and nighttime lighting are integrated to create a soothing visual effect.

In view of its use by our hospital patients, the Healing Garden has clearance for wheelchairs. It is expected that the Healing Garden will also be used as a place where a patient's loved ones can await the outcome of a surgery or receive news of a diagnosis. While, on occasion, discreet social events in connection with a Neuro event may be held there as well, the primary focus of the Garden is to provide a tranquil and inviting space for quiet reflection.

The Neuro's staff and students are welcome to enjoy this new area of The Neuro, but like a library or a religious temple, the Healing Garden must impose restrictions if it is to maintain its purpose. We therefore respectfully request that there be no food or drink, no laptops, and no loud conversation.

By respecting the peaceful environment of the Healing Garden, we can all benefit from its restful power.

Comme vous le savez sans doute, le jardin de ressourcement situé au rez-de-chaussée de l'atrium Manuvie, qui s'élève sur trois étages du Pavillon de l'aile nord du Neuro, accueille des visiteurs de façon régulière depuis son ouverture, en mai dernier.

Ceci dit, nous tenons à rappeler aux usagers que cette oasis de verdure spacieuse et baignée de lumière a été aménagée pour offrir aux patients de notre hôpital un endroit calme et favorable à la guérison. Les éléments de la nature - eau, fleurs, arbres et arbustes - ont été choisis pour leurs propriétés régénératrices. Les nuances de couleurs, de textures et de fragrances contribuent à atténuer le stress et l'anxiété. Et les éclairages naturel, artificiel et nocturne s'harmonisent pour créer un effet visuel apaisant.

Étant donné qu'il est mis à la disposition de nos patients, le jardin de ressourcement présente le dégagement nécessaire pour permettre l'accès aux personnes en fauteuil roulant. Il peut également être utilisé par les proches d'un patient en attente de l'issue d'une chirurgie ou de l'annonce d'un diagnostic. Bien qu'à l'occasion, on puisse y tenir des activités sociales discrètes liées au Neuro, le jardin se veut d'abord et avant tout un lieu de tranquillité invitant et propice à la réflexion.

Les étudiants et les membres du personnel du Neuro sont les bienvenus dans ce nouvel espace. Toutefois, à l'instar d'une bibliothèque ou d'un lieu de culte, le jardin de ressourcement doit faire l'objet de certaines restrictions afin de conserver sa raison d'être. Nous prions donc les usagers de s'abstenir de boire, de manger, d'utiliser un ordinateur portable ou de parler à voix haute.

En préservant la quiétude du jardin, nous pourrons tous bénéficier de son pouvoir relaxant.
