Hi everyone:

As one of its inaugural Associate Editors, I am glad to announce the launch today of the British Medical Journal’s open-science outlet: BMJ Open Science.

We have put in place and adopted state-of-the art policies for the conduct and publication of basic and pre-clinical open science in biology and the biomedical fields (e.g., guidelines from the Center for Open Science).

- All articles will be open access, with flat-rate publishing charges waived during the launch period.
- The journal has an open-data policy and follows the TOP (Transparency and Openness Promotion) guidelines. This means the datasets, analytical methods (including statistical code) and research materials used in your study should be openly available.
- It operates under open peer review. This means reviewer reports and names are published alongside accepted articles. Open peer review promotes transparency and accountability for peer reviewers, editors, and authors.
We designate reviews with a DOI and reviewers have the ability to upload the review to their ORCID profile.
- It is mandatory for submitting authors to have an ORCID upon revision.
- BMJ Open Science fully supports and encourages the archiving of preprints (e.g. from bioRxiv)
- The journal will focus on quality of the research reports: negative results can be submitted for consideration.

For more information concerning the journal, please visit: http://openscience.bmj.com

With best wishes,

Sylvain.
