“Biostatistics and neuroinformatics in reproducible imaging genomics”
Jean-Baptiste Poline, Research Scientist
Henry Wheeler Jr. Brain Imaging Center
Helen Wills Neuroscience Institute
University of California, Berkeley, USA
Bio
Since 1990, Jean-Baptiste Poline has worked on the development of methods for the analysis of functional imaging data (mostly fMRI), and more specifically in the statistical modeling and inference aspects. While a post-doctoral fellow in London (1994-1996), Dr. Poline co-authored SPM, the most popular fMRI statistical analysis software, and developed novel data analysis techniques. He maintains close interactions with neuroscientists to ensure that analysis methods are answering actual needs. Dr. Poline has taught neuroimaging data analysis courses and organized several of these courses in different countries, and he was re-elected in 2015 as Educational Chair of the Organization for Human Brain Mapping. During the past ten years, Dr. Poline has developed an interest in neuroimaging network analyses and imaging genetics, and was previously responsible for a large multi-centric neuroimaging genetic database at NeuroSpin. He chairs the Neuroimaging Data Sharing task force of the International Neuroinformatics Coordinating Facility. In 2012, he moved to Berkeley and co-founded the journal Frontiers in Brain Imaging Methods, partly to address the need for reproducibility through the development of methods in the brain imaging field. Currently, Dr. Poline is developing methods for resting-state fMRI and genetic data using clustering techniques, as well as teaching neuroimaging data analysis in Python. He also works on parcellation techniques to define nodes in network analyses and on estimating network structures and significance of edges.
*Dr. Poline is a candidate for a faculty position in the Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery and the Ludmer Centre for Neuroinformatics & Mental Health.
Regards,
Debbie
