Dear All:
40 years ago, the first Canadian Positron Emission Tomography (PET) camera was installed at the Montreal Neurological Institute, thereby taking the activities of our beloved BIC to unprecedented levels (see attached).
See also http://www.bic.mni.mcgill.ca/users/chris/First_PET_in_Montreal.pdf for a great historical memo contributed by the BIC's Dr. Chris Thompson about this key moment in neuroimaging history!
Today, our Cyclotron Unit produces the longest list of radiotracers used in PET imaging in North America and serves a community of 30+ Principal Investigators and dozens of trainees. The BIC is equipped with 2 human PET cameras (one is high-resolution - only 1 in 12 worldwide), one micro-PET for rodent models, and one SPECT system.
The demand in PET scans has actually increased by 60% over the past 12 months, and new equipment was recently purchased by our user community to constantly improve our production capacity and capability (more on that soon).
Have a great week everyone!
Sylvain.
ps/ thank you to Dr. Gassan Massarweh, Head of Cyclotron, for reminding us of this historical milestone.
