Dear All:

40 years ago, the first ‪Canadian‬ Positron Emission Tomography (‪‎PET‬) camera was installed at the Montreal Neurological Institute, thereby taking the activities of our beloved BIC to unprecedented levels (see attached).

See also http://www.bic.mni.mcgill.ca/users/chris/First_PET_in_Montreal.pdf for a great historical memo contributed by the BIC's Dr. Chris Thompson about this key moment in neuroimaging ‪history‬!

Today, our Cyclotron Unit produces the longest list of radiotracers used in PET imaging in North America and serves a community of 30+ Principal Investigators and dozens of trainees. The BIC is equipped with 2 human PET cameras (one is high-resolution - only 1 in 12 worldwide), one micro-PET for rodent models, and one SPECT system.

The demand in PET scans has actually increased by 60% over the past 12 months, and new equipment was recently purchased by our user community to constantly improve our production capacity and capability (more on that soon).

Have a great week everyone!

Sylvain.

ps/ thank you to Dr. Gassan Massarweh, Head of Cyclotron, for reminding us of this historical milestone.
