[BIC-announce] Passing of Marika Archambault-Wallenburg

Dear BIC Community:

It is with great regret that we learned of the passing of Marika Achambault-Wallenburg, a Ph.D. Candidate with Bruce Pike and Louis Collins at the BIC, in the department of Biomedical Engineering. Marika passed away from complications of cystic fibrosis in the presence of her family on Sunday.

Marika was an outstanding student, having been awarded a CGS NSERC fellowship and a BME Recruitment award. She was liked by everyone who met her. She had a strong thirst for life. She will be sorely missed.

Let me add a note sent by her family:

"Sad news about Marika / Triste nouvelle à propos de Marika

The bravest, brightest, most beautiful light we've ever known winked out Sunday. Marika passed away from complications from CF just before noon. She would have turned 28 on July 29th. We’re crushed as you can imagine and it pains us to have to bring you this news.

We've never known anyone so brave or to bring so much joy and sunshine to others. We've never known anyone more deserving to live and be happy.

Please take time to hold her in your thoughts and appreciate her in the days to come.
