Subject: First journal club this semester
Hi everyone,
We would like to announce the first brain oscillations journal club meeting this semester.
Soheila Samiee (Dr. Sylvain Ballet's lab) will give a talk this Friday (Oct 4th) at 4:00 pm at
Thompson House (room 406). The abstract of her talk is included below.
Here is the list of next four presenters. We will contact you individually to confirm, but if you would
like to change the date or postpone your talk or cancel (let's hope this won't happen), please let us
know.
Date Presenter PI
11-Oct Mathew Krause C Pack
25-Oct Roberto Gulli J Martinez

Cross-frequency phase-amplitude coupling between neural oscillations.
Neural oscillations with different frequencies can interact in several ways. Recent evidence suggests that this interaction, which is called cross frequency coupling (CFC), may serve as a functional role in neuronal communication, computation and memory. Among possible cross frequency coupling types, modulation of the amplitude of high frequency oscillations by the phase of a lower frequency rhythm has been received a particular interest. Several methods for measuring this coupling have been introduced in the last decade; however, no single method has been chosen as a gold standard so far. In this talk, after a brief introduction about CFC, I will review and compare some available methods for its measurement. Then, I’ll present some results from my research project about revealing ongoing cross-frequency phase-amplitude coupling.
Thank you,
Sujay, Pascal and Rob
