Postdoctoral MR Physicist
University of Oxford -The Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences

The Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences, John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford

Grade 7: £29,541 - £36,298 p.a.

We invite applications for a postdoctoral research fellow for a 3 year contract, to join the Oxford Centre for Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging of the Brain (FMRIB). We are seeking to recruit an MR Physicist with experience in functional MRI. The post will involve developing new MR methods for measuring oxygen metabolism in the human brain. This will require elements of simulation, data collection and analysis. Comparison and validation of these new methods will involve the use of respiratory challenges and pharmacological manipulations.

This is an exciting opportunity to work on developing a new generation of MRI techniques for measuring oxygen metabolism during the resting baseline and during stimulus evoked activity. It is hoped that these new methods will remove the barriers that have inhibited the widespread adoption of the current generation of quantitative functional MRI techniques. The multifaceted nature of this project means there will be opportunities to get involved in elements as diverse as MRI pulse programming and venous blood sampling.

Experience with any or all of the following would be advantageous: MATLAB, image analysis, biophysical simulation, operating MRI scanners, respiratory or pharmacological manipulations, MRI pulse programming.

The successful candidate will have, or be about to receive, a PhD in a relevant area of Physics or Engineering. They should also have a demonstrated capacity for independent work and excellent written and oral communication skills. Informal email enquiries may be made to Dr Nicholas Blockley on the contact details below.

Applications for this vacancy are to be made online.

The closing date for applications is 12.00 midday on Wednesday 21 August 2013. Interviews will be held shortly thereafter.
