Subject: Killam Lecture - Tuesday, April 23, 2013 - Dr. Seung-Jae Lee
Dear Colleagues:
The Killam speaker this week will be Dr. Seung-Jae Lee. Seung-Jae is at Konkuk University, Seoul, Korea. His laboratory uses molecular, cellular and transgenic approaches to address mechanisms of neurodegeneration in Parkinson's disease (PD). Seung-Jae has focused on understanding the role of alpha-synuclein, a key protein in PD. In particular, Seung-Jae was the first to show that, despite its presumed cytosolic localization, alpha-synuclein is secreted by neurons. This idea has gained enormous momentum recently with work showing that alpha-synuclein may propagate from neuron-to neuron in the brain, in a manner akin to prion disease. I hope you will join us for his seminar entitled: "Extracellular Alpha-Synuclein: Unusual Suspect of Lewy Body Diseases"
Best wishes,
Ted Fon
