Ronald C. Petersen, M.D., Ph.D., is the chair of the Advisory Council on Alzheimer's Disease Research, Care and Services for the National Alzheimer's Project Act by the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services.

He is also on the National Advisory Council on Aging and is one of the most influential clinician scientists (neurologist) in the field of Alzheimer's Disease. Dr. Petersen consolidated the concept of Mild Cognitive Impairment among many other contributions and conducts groundbreaking clinical research in the field of Alzheimer's disease and dementia. He holds the Cora Kanow Professorship in Alzheimer's Disease Research, as Mayo Clinic Distinguished Investigator. Dr. Petersen is a recipient of the 2004 MetLife Award for Medical Research in Alzheimer's Disease, the 2004 and the 2005 Potamkin Prize for Research in Pick's, Alzheimer's and Related Disorders of the American Academy of Neurology.

Dr. Petersen will discuss the diagnosis of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) in the context of the new NIA-AA diagnostic criteria. He will highlight the importance of distinguishing between the various forms of dementias in their early stages as well as provide an overview of novel therapeutic interventions.

Ronald C. Petersen, M.D., Ph.D., occupe le poste de président du Advisory Council on Alzheimer's Disease Research, Care and Services for the National Alzheimer's Project Act by the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services aux États-Unis. Il fait aussi partie du National Advisory Council on Aging et est un des plus influent clinicien-chercheur (neurologue) dans le domaine de la maladie d'Alzheimer. Le Dr Petersen a consolidé le concept de déficit cognitif léger parmi plusieurs autres contributions de même qu'il mène des projets de recherche innovateurs dans le domaine de la maladie d'Alzheimer et la démence. Il détient le titre de professeur de Cora Kanow de la recherche sur la maladie d'Alzheimer ainsi que celui de chercheur éminent de la clinique Mayo. Le Dr Petersen a été récipendaire en 2004 du prix MetLife pour la recherche médicale sur la maladie d'Alzheimer, en 2004 et 2005 il a reçu de l'American Academy of Neurology le prix Potamkin pour la recherche sur la maladie de Pick.

Le Dr Petersen fera une présentation sur le diagnostic de déficit cognitif léger (DCL) et soulignera l'importance quant à la distinction entre les divers types de démence qui peuvent apparaître avec l'âge.
