*Pathways** and Connections*****

*How does one become a successful neuroscientist?* This informal seminar
series will try to answer this question through a series of conversations
with some of the most successful neuroscientists in the world: researchers
who are affiliated with McGill University <http://www.mcgill.ca/>’s Integrated
Program in Neuroscience <http://www.mcgill.ca/ipn/> or former McGill
Neuroscience Alumni who are now in the non-academic world. This will be
your chance to talk to them about the circuitous pathways and the
important, but often serendipitous, connections that led them to where they
are now. ****

Dr. Phil Barker<http://www.mni.mcgill.ca/neuro_team/neuronal_survival/philip_barker/>is
a molecular biologist and biochemist at the Montreal Neurological
Institute (*MNI*) as well as a Professor in the Departments of Neurology &
Neurosurgery and Anatomy and Cell Biology at McGill University. He is also
currently the Interim Director of the MNI. Dr. Barker was raised in
British Columbia and obtained his BSc from Simon Fraser University. He
obtained his PhD from the University of Alberta, under the mentorship of
Dr. Richard Murphy, and performed postdoctoral studies at Stanford
University with Dr. Eric Shooter.

Dr. Barker's Lab <http://barker-lab.mcgill.ca//> studies cellular decisions
that regulate life and death decisions in the normal and damaged nervous
system and in cancer. They combine genetics with cell and molecular biology
to study and decipher conserved intracellular pathways in model systems
ranging from flies to rodents.
