===========================================
Dear colleagues:
Our Killam Speaker on Tuesday, 6 March, will be Dr. Paola Arlotta from the Harvard Stem Cell Institute. Dr. Arlotta's lab has been conducting very exciting work on the molecular pathways that direct the early specification of neural progenitors to generate distinct types of projection neurons during development of the cerebral cortex. They specifically focus on the early signals that induce differentiation of corticospinal neurons, a clinically relevant neuronal population that can selectively degenerate in several human conditions such as ALS, Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia, Primary Lateral Sclerosis, and that is permanently injured in spinal cord injury. Dr. Arlotta's group has recently made seminal discoveries published in journals like Neuron and Nat. Neurosci. I encourage all of you to attend her seminar: she is a very engaging and enthusiastic speaker and I am sure that you will enjoy learning about their exciting new results.
