Dear Colleagues,

Our Killam speaker for Tuesday, January 31, 2012 is Dr. Yves de Koninck.

Yves De Koninck is Professor of Psychiatry & Neuroscience at Laval University and Director of the Division of Cellular & Molecular Neuroscience at the Quebec Mental Health Institute. He is also director of a CIHR Strategic Training Program at the interface between Photonics, Material Sciences, Computational Sciences and Neurosciences (www.neurophysics.ca<http://www.neurophysics.ca>) and leads the Neurophotonics Centre (www.neurophotonics.ca<http://www.neurophotonics.ca>), a unique infrastructure aimed at implementing the latest photonics-based technology for applications in neuroscience. While he is known for his research on the neurochemistry and physiology of pain transmission,

his research has also led to the development of several new innovative and enabling technologies for neuroscience including notably the subject of his Killam Lecture:

"A new tool for single cell optogenetics in the intact brain".
I look forward to seeing you all there for an interesting talk.
