Subject: [NEURO] Neuro Film Series - "Extraordinary Measures" showing on Tuesday, May 24 at 6:30 pm
The Neuro's final installment before the summer break will be it's showing of "Extraordinary Measures" (2010) on Tuesday, May 24th, 2011. This movie was inspired by the true story of John Crowley, a man who defied conventional wisdom and great odds, and risked his family's future to pursue a cure for his children's life threatening disease (Pompe's disease). Crowley teams up with a brilliant, but unappreciated and unconventional scientist, Dr. Robert Stonehill to form a bio-tech company focused on developing a life-saving drug.
Extraordinary Measures will be hosted by one of the Neuro's own. Scientist and Director of Molecular Neurogenetics, Eric Shoubridge, PhD. is a Professor in the Departments of Neurology and Neurosurgery, and Human Genetics at the Montreal Neurological Institute, McGill University. He is also a Howard Hughes Medical Institute International Scholar and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada. Dr. Eric Shoubridge's laboratory focuses on the molecular genetics and cell biology of mitochondrial encephelomyopathies, diseases that result from deficiencies in the mitochondrial respiratory chain. His lab is also developing systems to transform mammalian mitochondria to create models of the human diseases.
Discover science at the movies on May 24, 6:30 pm at the Neuro Film Series!
Neuro Movie Nights are free and snacks can be purchased (including wraps and popcorn!).
All films take place at the Montreal Neurological Institute and Hospital, 3801 University street, Jeanne Timmins amphitheatre
