Subject: Seminar in Biomedical Engineering - Wednesday April 20th - 1 pm - Room 333
Dear all,
Our next Biomedical Engineering Dpt seminar is TODAY
Wednesday - April 20that 1 pm
Location: Room 333 Lyman Duff Building (Biomedical Engineering Dpt).
Speaker: Claudine Gauthier, M.Sc., PhD candidate under the supervision of Dr. Rick Hoge, Département de physiologie, sciences
neurologiques, Université de Montréal
Title: A generalized procedure for calibrated fMRI: simultaneous measurement of metabolic and vascular reactivity
Abstract:
Comparison of BOLD activation signals between different groups, such
as in aging and disease, can be misleading due to differences in
hemodynamic physiology. To allow quantitative comparisons, calibrated
MRI techniques estimate cerebral metabolic rate of O2 consumption
(CMRO2) from BOLD. Calibration techniques involve estimation of M,
equivalent to the maximum possible BOLD signal change, by
extrapolating from smaller changes obtained during hypercapnia or
hyperoxia. Here I present a new and more robust calibration technique,
based on a generalization of previous BOLD signal models with combined
hypercapnia and hyperoxia.
