Subject: [NEURO] DJ Killam Lecture September 27: Dr. Marianne Bronner-Fraser
Dear Neuro Faculty, Staff and Students,
This year's Dorothy J. Killam Lecturer is Dr. Marianne Bronner-Fraser, the Albert Billings Ruddock Professor of Biology at the California Institute of Technology. An expert in early formation of the vertebrate nervous system and how vertebrates evolve, she will deliver her lecture, "Gene regulatory network underlying neural crest formation" on September 27, 2010 in the Jeanne Timmins Amphitheatre at 4 pm. (poster attached). A reception will follow in the Foyer.
The Dorothy J. Killam Lecture was established at The Neuro to recognize women of influence in science, politics or the humanities. It is named after Mrs. Killam, an extraordinary woman who, together with her husband, made immense contributions to Canadian education and science. The Killam Trusts support a wide variety of activities at five Canadian universities and institutes, including the Montreal Neurological Institute.
Dr. Marianne Bronner-Fraser received her Sc.B. from Brown University (1975) and her Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins University (1979) in biophysics. She joined the faculty at University of California, Irvine in 1980 (Assistant Professor to full Professor) and subsequently moved to Caltech in 1996. She is Past President of the Society for Developmental Biology and Editor for several journals (Developmental Biology, Journal of Cell Biology, Molecular Biology of the Cell). Dr. Bronner-Fraser has published extensively in top journals such as PNAS, Nature, Developmental Biology, and Development and has won a number of student initiated teaching awards.
All are welcome and graduate students are strongly encouraged to attend.
Regards,
Sandra McPherson
