Subject: The Neuro Film Series - Discover science at the movies! "AWAY FROM HER" - showing on November 11 at the Montreal Neurological Institute & Hospital
Neuro Film Series #2 - "Away From Her" - November 11 at 6:30 pm
Our next film is Away from Her. A film that is both a love story and a portrayal of the devastating effect of Alzheimer's Disease. Away From Her (2007) is a beautiful film based on a short story by Alice Munro, starring acclaimed actress Julie Christie and directed by the talented Sarah Polley. The movie is a poignant and complex look at the effects of dementia on an individual, on her relationship with her husband, and on new relationships she forms after moving to a nursing home. It highlights both the tragic and redeeming aspects of loving a person suffering from an illness that erodes core aspects of 'self,' including memory and personality, as so many neurological diseases do. The movie captures the complexity of relationships under these circumstances.
Away From Her will be hosted by Neurologist Dr. Lesley Fellows who is witness to these struggles in her clinical work, and is often inspired and touched by how the bonds of love and family resist the sometimes very tragic effects of these illnesses.
Neuro Movie Nights are free and snacks can be purchased (including wraps and popcorn!)
