Jerzy Olszewski Lecture

Tuesday, May 25th at 4pm in the Jeanne Timmins Amphitheatre

Dear Colleagues,

I am very pleased to welcome Karel Svoboda from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, Janelia Farm Research Campus as the Jerzy Olszewski Lecturer of 2010.

His lecture is entitled:

The Neural Circuits underlying Somatosensation

Karel Svoboda is known for his ground breaking research in synaptic plasticity, since he was able to image in vivo for the first time the development of new spines on cortical neurons as a result of new sensory experience. This research employing two photon imaging of pyramidal cells in the somatosensory cortex over periods of one month in rodents has thus demonstrated structural changes that underlie learning and memory. Some of his most significant and recent publications are listed below.

I strongly encourage you all to attend this honorary lecture which promises to be technically and theoretically exciting and informative.

Best regards,

Barbara Jones
