=========================================================
Dr. McBride obtained her undergraduate degree in the Department of Biochemistry at McGill University in Montreal in 1991. She remained here for her graduate studies with Dr. Gordon Shore and was awarded her PhD in 1996. During her PhD research, she uncovered novel principles in mitochondrial protein biogenesis, examining how mitochondrial proteins are correctly targeted for entry into the organelle. In 1996, she moved to the European Molecular Biology Laboratories in Heidelberg, Germany, to work with Dr. Marino Zerial studying the function of Rab GTPases and the molecular mechanisms that govern vesicular traffic within the early endosome. Dr. McBride joined the Lipoprotein and Atherosclerosis Group in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Heart Institute in 2000. She merged her postdoctoral training in cell biology with her PhD work in mitochondrial biogenesis to investigate the function and regulation of mitochondrial dynamics in living cells. For this, she was awarded the Premier's Research Excellence Award in 2001, the Young Professor of the Year Award from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Ottawa in 2004, and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2006.
