Dear Colleagues,

I would like  to  invite you to attend the Killam  Seminar to be
presented on Wednesday May 6th at 4 PM in the de Grandpre Conference
Centre by Dr. Esther Shohami entitled:  
Endocannabinoids: Their role in neuroprotection after traumatic brain
injury.

Dr. Shohami obtained her BSc and MSc degrees in chemistry and her PhD in
physiology (biophysics)at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. She then
did a two-year postdoctoratal training at McGill with Dr. Adi Eisenberg
in the Department of Chemistry between 1973 and 1975. She has been on
staff at the Hebrew University since 1976, and is currently Full
Professor in the Department of Pharmacology, and the incumbent of the
Dr. Leon and Dr. Mina Deutsch Chair in Psychopharmacology. She is also
the Dean of Students at the hebrew University.

Dr. Shohami's research has focused on the pharmacological aspects of
hypoxia and traumatic brain injury (TBI)in rodents. She has carried out
important work on the regulation of prostaglandin synthesis; cerebral
edema following closed head injury; the role of reactive oxygen species
in the pathogenesis of TBI; and neuroprotective effects of various
substances on TBI.

Beni SM et al. CuZn-SOD deficiency, rather than overexpression , is
associated with enhanced recovery and attenuated activation of NF-kappaB
after brain trauma in mice. J Cereb Blood Flow Metab. 26:478-490, 2006.

Panikashvili D et al. The endocannabinoid 2-AG protects the blood brain
barrier after closed head injury and inhibits expression of
