-----------------------------------------------------------
Hi everyone,
The MNI Killam lecture on Tuesday April 15, 2008 will be given by
neurobiologist Ian Meinertzhagen of Dalhousie University. The lecture
title is "The tadpole larva of Ciona: the miniature brain of an ancient
chordate". Ian will describe some of his recent work and will give an
overview of the ascidian larval nervous system stressing its
relationships to the vertebrate nervous system. He will also discuss
the ascidian larva as an attractive model system for neurobiological and
genomic studies. This should be a rather general and accessible talk
and would be good for students (and of course professors!)
Though his talk will focus on ascidians, Ian is also well-known for his
long history of contributions to Drosophila neurobiology, including
fundamental mechanisms of neurotransmission.
He has broad knowledge and will have interesting insight into
neurobiological aspects of chordate/vertebrate evolution.
See you there.
