--------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Colleagues,

Serge Marchand of Sherbrooke University's Centre of Clinical Research
will visit the MNI Tuesday, April 08, 2008 and speak in the Killam
Seminar at 4 pm at the Grandpre Communications Centre. Serge holds a
joint chair in pain at both UQAT and University of Sherbrooke and is the
Director of the new CRC-CHUS FRSQ Pain Axis. He will present his recent
work on

"Normal and Abnormal Pain: The Major Role of Endogenous Pain
Modulation".

Serge is well-known for his work in the field of endogenous pain
modulation mechanisms. His research is characterized by a close link
between fundamental and clinical projects, aiming at understanding the
neurophysiological basis of the development, persistency and treatment
of chronic pain. Recent advances in his laboratory include studies
demonstrating the role of olfaction in pain perception, the modulation
of nociception by sex steroids in both animal and human subjects, and
the contribution of expectation to the response to pain treatment.
Serge is an engaging and exciting speaker. I am sure we can look
forward to a stimulating and thought-provoking presentation combining
fundamental and clinical findings on pain perception and therapy.

I am looking forward to seeing you all there.

Thomas Stroh, Ph.D.
