Combine the acquisition of work experience with pursuing interesting work in a dynamic brain research laboratory. A laboratory engineer position is available at Amir Shmuel's new laboratory within the MNI BIC, McGill University. One focus of the laboratory is the investigation of the mechanism underlying brain imaging signals that are utilized by cutting edge non-invasive brain imaging methods. A second research line investigates how does the visual brain mediates visual perception. The laboratory employs a combination of imaging and neurophysiology techniques, including functional MRI, optical imaging using intrinsic signals and voltage sensitive dyes, multi-channel neurophysiology, and inactivation methods (see http://www2.bic.mni.mcgill.ca/research/labs/visual_systems/ <http://www2.bic.mni.mcgill.ca/research/labs/visual_systems/> ). The successful candidate will be responsible for integrating the data-acquisition systems in the lab, integrating a system for monitoring movements of the subject, and developing methods for brain imaging and neurophysiology data-acquisition and data-analysis. Possibilities for innovation which may lead to applications. Expected work load: 2-3 days a week for 6 months with an option to be continued. Depending on qualifications, a full 5 days a week schedule is possible. Candidates should have acquired a B.Sc. or engineering degree preferably in Physics/Electrical-Engineering/Biomedical-Engineering/Computer- Engineering, or should be currently enrolled in the last year of studies for one of these degrees.
Combining the work with studying for a Master's/Ph.D. degree in the lab or in a relevant field is an encouraged option. Please send your CV and university record transcripts to amir.shmuel at mcgill.ca.
