	Position Announcement
	Assistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering
Department of Electrical, Computer and Biomedical Engineering
	University of Rhode Island

Applications are invited for a tenure-track position in
Biomedical
Engineering at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning in Fall
2007.
We are particularly interested in candidates with research
expertise
in one or more of the following areas: biosensors,
neuroengineering,
	biomedical signal/image processing, bioinstrumentation, or
bioelectricity. Exceptionally strong candidates in other areas
of
biomedical engineering will also be considered. A PhD in
biomedical
engineering or closely related engineering field is required at
the
time of appointment. The successful candidate will have the
ability to
teach and develop new undergraduate and graduate courses while
conducting high-quality research in biomedical engineering.

The current 19 full-time faculty in the Department of
Electrical,
Computer and Biomedical Engineering conduct research in the
following
disciplines: bioinstrumentation; medical image and signal
processing;
	cardiac mechanics, electrophysiology, and resuscitation;
physiological
modeling; assistive technology; neuroengineering; speech and
auditory
	modeling; very large scale integrated (VLSI) circuit design;
reliable
logic circuit design and synthesis; on-chip measurements and
testing;
computer-based instrumentation; computer network security; high
performance computer architectures; parallel and distributed
computing; computer performance modeling and simulation; signal
and
image processing; detection and estimation theory; digital
communications; control theory. The Department offers programs
leading
to the BS, MS, and PhD degrees. The interdisciplinary nature of
our
Department will provide the new faculty member with optional
opportunities to also teach courses in electrical engineering or
	computer engineering. Collaborative, interdisciplinary research
and
teaching opportunities exist with faculty in the departments of
Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical and Pharmaceutical Sciences,
Computer Science and Statistics, Biological Sciences, Cellular
and
	Molecular Biology, and Kinesiology.

The University of Rhode Island is a comprehensive doctoral
research,
Land Grant, Sea Grant and Urban Grant university. URI College of
Engineering offers innovative undergraduate and graduate
programs,
stresses links between diverse fields of inquiry, and values
outreach,
scholarship, and laboratory-based learning. The University of
Rhode
Island is a medium-sized public university located near the
southeastern end of the state and picturesque New England. The
main
campus is located in Kingston, an established, family-friendly,
small
community only five miles from the Narragansett Bay and the
Atlantic
Ocean. Rhode Island's proximity to the ocean moderates its
weather
compared to other New England states. The region offers
excellent
outdoor recreational activities, a good public school system,
and
ready access by car or public transportation to Providence,
Boston,
and New York City metropolitan areas and airports.

Review of applications will begin on April 1, 2007 and continue
until
the position is filled. The starting date is negotiable, and
salary is
commensurate with qualifications and experience. Applicants
should
send via regular mail (e-mail and faxes cannot be accepted) a
complete
curriculum vitae and a narrative describing their research and
teaching background and objectives, and the names of at least
three
	references to:

	        Frederick J. Vetter, Search Chair
	        Requisition # 011328
	        University of Rhode Island
	        P.O. Box G
	        Kingston, RI 02881

We hope to attract applicants who can teach in a diverse
University
community and have demonstrated ability in helping students from
diverse backgrounds succeed. We are committed to building a
multicultural work force and strongly encourage women,
racial/ethnic/gender minorities, persons with disabilities, and
covered veterans to apply. The University of Rhode Island is an
Equal
	Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer.
