Dear Colleagues,

Our Killam speaker for Tuesday, March 6, 2007 at 4:00 p.m. is Dr. Lori Isom from the University of Michigan, Department of Pharmacology. Dr. Isom's main research focuses on the auxiliary beta subunits of the voltage-gated sodium channel. Beta subunits are cell adhesion molecules that interact with numerous intracellular and extracellular proteins. They play roles in sodium channel expression, localization and function and are involved in the formation of nodes of Ranvier. Abnormal beta subunit expression or function may contribute to epilepsy and neuropathic pain.

The title of her talk is:

"Sodium channel ß subunits: channel modulators and cell adhesion molecules".

I am looking forward to seeing you all there.

Dave Ragsdale, Ph.D.
