May 26: A day of activities in recognition of CIM's impressive
achievements in the world of multi-disciplinary research and teaching.

Outline Agenda for day activities attached.  More details on abstracts and
demos will be available as time progresses.

Dear Friends of CIM,

As most of you are now aware, the Centre for Intelligent Machines (CIM) is
celebrating its 20th Anniversary this year. Please join us on Friday, May
26, 2006, for a day of activities in recognition of CIM's impressive
achievements in the world of multi-disciplinary research and teaching.



Notable events and times:
OPEN HOUSE: 10am to 3pm
Demos of research projects in our 12 interdisciplinary labs specializing
in the areas of robotics, systems and control, haptics, vision, medical
imaging and shared reality.


INVITED SPEAKERS: 10:30am to 11:30pm
Various talks by alumni and friends from both academia and industry,
including

Julie Payette, Canadian Space Agency Astronaut and former PhD student at
CIM. (12-12:30pm)

and keynote speeches by

Steve Zucker, "From modeling intelligence to modeling plants," co-founder
of the Centre for Intelligent Machines and currently David and Lucile
Packard Professor of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering at Yale
University. (3-4pm)

Alex (Sandy) Pentland, "Collective Intelligence", MITs Toshiba Professor
of Media Arts and Sciences and a pioneer in wearable computers, health
systems, smart environments, and technology for developing countries.
(6:30-7:30pm)

STUDENT POSTER SESSION: 1pm to 2:30pm
CIM graduate students - among the brightest and the best in the world -
will present posters on their research studies. Invitees from diverse
professional backgrounds will act as reviewers and judges.


CLOSING REMARKS: 4pm to 4:30 pm

DINNER: 6:00pm to 11pm (advance tickets required)
 The day will wrap-up with an exclusive dinner at McGills Faculty Club.
There is limited space for the dinner, so please book early. Dinner
includes on-site attendance at seminar with Alex Pentland. Dinner tickets
