Subject: Killam Lecture - Today

 KILLAM

The Killam series speaker for Tuesday, January 24, is Dr. Louis-Eric Trudeau from the Dept. of Pharmacology, Université de Montréal.
Dr. Trudeau's talk at 4:00 p.m. in the deGrandpre Communication Centre is entitled: "Exploring dopamine-glutamate co-transmission in midbrain dopamine neurons".

The laboratory of Dr. Louis-Eric Trudeau focusses its efforts on the mechanisms that regulate neurotransmitter release from dopamine-containing neurons in the brain. This cell population is of much interest considering its implication is a number of diseases of the CNS including Parkinson's disease, schizophrenia and drug abuse. In his lecture Dr. Trudeau will present some of his recent work dealing with the unsuspected capacity of dopamine neurons to release glutamate as a cotransmitter. This basic question is of much interest in the context of recent work showing the capacity of many neurons to change their neurotransmitter phenotype as a mechanism of plasticity or in response to pathological conditions.
Looking forward to seeing you there for a stimulating seminar,

Philippe
