KILLAM LECTURE
Speaker: Heidi McBride, Ph.D.
Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine
University of Ottawa
Title: The Emerging Role of SUMOylation in Mitochondrial
Dynamics
Place: de Grandpre Communications Centre
Date: Tuesday, December 5, 2006
Time: 4:00 pm
The Killam seminar this week will be given by Heidi McBride, who is
currently an Associate Professor at the Ottawa Heart Institute. Heidi is
an extremely creative and talented cell biologist whose most recent work
involves the study of mitochondrial dynamics, and more specifically the
process of mitochondrial fusion. This is currently a very hot topic in
both in basic biology and in neurological disease. Mutations in two of
the components of the fusion machinery have been associated with the
most common form of dominantly inherited optic atrophy and with one form
of Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease. Heidi is a very dynamic individual and a
great speaker. Do come out to hear her- there will be something for
everyone.
