Subject: Killam Tomorrow
Dr. Mike Merzenich will give the Killam seminar this Tuesday at 4:00.
Dr. Mike Merzenich is the Francis Sooy Professor and Co-Chair of
Otolaryngology at UCSF. He was elected to the National Academy of
Sciences in 1999. Dr. Merzenich discovered that the adult cerebral
microstructure can be modified by experience, a plasticity now regarded
as a general property of mammalian cortices. With colleagues he used
this basic discovery to design a multichannel cochlear implant, a
training method for language-impaired children, and models for stroke
recovery. Please come and enjoy an exciting seminar.
