The Killam speaker May 31 is John Dani, Professor of Neuroscience at
Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, TX. John's major research interest
is in the mechanisms of synaptic plasticity underlying drug addiction
with an emphasis on nicotine. He is a talented neuroscientist using a
multidisciplinary approach ranging from electrophysiology to knockout
animals and behavior. His recent article in Neuron, about unexpected
properties of dopaminergic terminals (Zhou et al., 2005), is a paradigm
shift in the understanding of antidepressants actions. The talk on
Tuesday '' Cholinergic and Dopaminergic Mechanisms Underlying Nicotine
Addiction" promises to be an exciting review of the current knowledge.
He is an excellent speaker and I encourage you all to attend.=20
