Today's Herbert Jasper Lecture Speaker: Dr. Gyorgi Buzsaki=20
Title: Oscillatory Control of Cell Assemblies in the Hippocampus
4 PM, Jeanne Timmons Amphitheatre (NOTE CHANGED LOCATION)
Refreshments served at 3:45 PM

Dear Colleagues:

We are pleased to welcome Gyorgi Buzsaki as the Herbert Jasper Lecturer
of 2005. Over the past 25 years, Buzsaki has explored and
conceptualized the mechanisms of cognition and memory at systems,
neuronal and synaptic levels. By focusing upon the hippocampus and its
interaction with neocortex, he has elucidated the mechanisms that
underlie coordinated activity and associated plasticity of large
neuronal assemblies. He has described the multiple interneurons that
participate in shaping pyramidal cell activity. By large-scale
recording of cell ensembles, he has described the neuronal oscillations
in cortical networks that temporally link neurons into assemblies and
facilitate synaptic plasticity within those functionally linked
assemblies. He will review this work in his lecture, entitled:

"Oscillatory Control of Cell Assemblies in the Hippocampus".

Tuesday, May 10th at 4 p.m. in the Jean Timmins Amphitheatre. =20

His research and laboratory can be viewed on his website:

Best regards,

Barbara Jones
