This week's Killam speaker with be Dr. Matt Ramer.  Dr. Ramer is a
faculty member at the University of British Columbia and is a member of
ICORD.  His laboratory is interested in changes that occur in sensory
neurons and other cells of the nervous system when they are injured, the
consequences to the physiology and behaviour of animals (rats and mice)
with damaged sensory neurons, and ways to improve the outcome of such
damage.  Projects in his lab include studying the cause of regeneration
failure at the dorsal root entry zone particularly focussing onthe
contribution of non-neuronal cells in the environment, and examining the
role of Galectin-1 in regeneration.  Dr. Ramer has published many key
findings since his arrival at UBC (see below) and is an engaging
