Dear colleagues,
This coming August, local organizers of the International Joint Conference on Neural Networks (IJCNN) are hosting a Special Interest Group entitled:
"Think Computationally, Act Locally".
As organizers of IJCNN, we believe this conference is a tremendous opportunity to initiate more active collaborations among researchers of the Montreal area interested in all aspects of neuroinformatics, brain imaging, neural networks, and computational neuroscience.
The Special Interest Group will be held on the 4th of august, at the site of the IJCNN conference and has received some financial support from the REPRIC. A panel of several Quebec researchers has been formed, and participants will be invited to describe their field of interest.
Confirmed panelists include:
* Jorge Armony (Douglas Hospital Research Centre),
* Evan Balaban (McGill University),
* Habib Benali (INSERM & Universite de Montreal),
* Paul Cisek (Universite de Montreal),
* Julien Doyon (CRIUGM, Universite de Montreal),
* Alan Evans (Montreal Neurological institute, McGill University),
* Peter Grogono (Computer Science, Concordia University)
* Jean Rouat (Universite de Sherbrooke),
* Peter Schizgal (CSBN, Concordia University).
In addition, and most importantly, all participants will be asked to identify areas of their work for which they seek collaborations with other laboratories.
All are welcome, and we strongly encourage you to forward this invitation to any colleague and student groups (in computer science, neuropsychology, neuroscience mathematics & stats programs and departments) who may be interested by this meeting.
If you are interested in attending, please RSVP by registering to the following website:
http://www.rsmnq.ca/repric/en/SIG_IJCNN05.htm
For further information, you may also send us an e-mail on:
sig@criugm.rtss.qc.ca
In the near future, a virtual space (a wiki web site) will be set up so that attendees of the SIG will have an online gathering place where a distributed diary of most important ideas discussed during the evening will be posted. This online presence will advertise the existence of this interest group, allowing members to continue dialogues, maintain contact, and evolve ideas.
Attendance to this Special Interest Group is free. Although not mandatory, attendees are invited to register to the IJCNN conference through the official website: http://faculty.uwb.edu/ijcnn05/.
We look forward to seeing you on the 4th of august for some stimulating discussions,
The organizers:
Oury Monchi, Jean-Philippe Thivierge, and Yves Roy.
